Прагматична значимість реалізації властивостей ретроспекції та проспекції

Властивість ітегративності тісно зв’язана з двома іншими властивостям художнього тексту, що відомі як ретроспекція і проспекція (6, 105−113). Притаманні творам Фолкнера порушення часової послідовності та причинно-наслідкових зв’язків між подіями і явищами об'єктивної дійсності багато в чому пояснюється тим, як реалізуються ці категорії. Нагадаємо у зв’язку з цим висловлювання самого письменника: «НЕ ІСНУЄ НІЯКОГО «БУЛО» — ТІЛЬКИ «Є» .

Ретроспекція/проспекція— це граматичні властивості тексту, що об'єднують форми мовного вираження, яке відносить читача до попередньої чи / або наступної змістовно-фактуальної інформації (№, 106, 112). В дослідженому матеріалі містяться всі три типа ретроспекції, які виділяє І.Р.Гальперин (6, 106):

а) відновлююча:

…who… died in one (such was progress, that fast, that rapid) lost from control on an icy road by his… grandson, who had just returned from (such was progress) two years… (27: «The Jail», 689).

…and the County, …and its murders — by electricity now (so fast, that fast, was Progress) — to eternity from there… (27: «The Jail», 695).

Ці два дистанційно розташовані ППВ (при різних матричних реченнях) об'єднані явним смисловим зв’язком: друге ППВ відновлює інформацію, якої «бракує» першому.

б) переомислююча, як наприклад:

So we were not surprised when Homer Barron — the streets had been finished some time since — was gone. (27:" A Rose for Emily", 440).

…but we believed that he had gone on to prepare for Miss Emily’s coming… (By that time it was a cabal, and we were all Miss Emily’s allies to help circument the cousins.) (27:" A Rose for Emily", 441).

ППВ другого фрагменту тексту зазнає переосмислення в порівнянні з ППВ першого, оскільки відбулося примикання контекстуальної інформації.

в) актуалізована:

The camp — the clearing the house, the barn and its tiny lot with which Major de Spain in his turn had scratched punily and evanescently at the wilderness — faded in the dusk, back into the immemorial darkness of the woods. (27: «The Bear», 210). Інформація, яку передає ППВ, сприяє актуалізації ідейного змісту матричного речення.

Властивість проспекції також знаходить реалізацію в рамках ППВ: …Even the iailbreak was fortuity: a sans— three or four— of Natchez Trace bandits (twenty-five years later legend would begin to affirm, and a hundred years later would still be at it, that two of the bandits were the Harpes themselves, Bis Harpe anyway, since the circumstances, the method of the breakout left behind like a smell, an odor, a kind of gargantuan and bizarre playfulness at ones humorous and terrifyins, as if the settlement had fallen, blundered, into the notice or ranse of an idle and whimsical giant. Which — that they were the Harpes — was impossible, since the Harpes and even the last of Mason’s ruffians were dead or scattered by this time, and the robbers would have had to belons to John Murrel’s orsanization — if they needed to belons to any at all other than the simple fraternity of rapine.) captured by chance by an incidental band of civilian more-or-less militia…" (27:" The Courthouse", 23). В цьому прикладі сигналом віднесення змістовно-факультативної інформації ППВ в майбутнє являється словосполучення «twenty-five years later», «a hundred years later», a також функцію проспекції показує час Future-in-the-Past: «legend would begin to affirm, and would still be at it… «.

В рамках деяких ППВ творів Фолкнера реалізувались як проспекції, так і ретроспекції. Наведемо один з таких прикладів:

But most of all, his own character (Two yews ago they had offered to make a trusty of hint He would no longer need to plow or feed stock, he would only follow those who did with a loaded gun, but he declined…) his good name… (27: Old Man", 521).

Як бачимо, словосполучення «two years agо, а також «had offered', тобто дієслово «to offer» в формі Past Perfect, виконують функцію ретроспекції. Щодо наступного речення, то використання Future-in-the-Past вказує нам, що в цій частині ППВ, реалізується властивість проспекції.

Прагматична значимість таких властивостей досить велика: створюється своєрідний континуум (6, 87) художнього тексту нерозірване переплітання фактів, подій, думок, реплік, коментарів, що в кінцевому випадку направленні на втілення ідеї концептуальної інформації чи іншого художнього твору.
